We love our Easter Eggs!
I have been lucky over the years and have some great memories of Easter's.
As a child we would also be bought a new outfit to wear on Easter Sunday. One year it was a white polo neck jumper with a red mini skirt, my first pair of "American tan" tights and knee high white patent leather boots. All this was finished with a furry muff to keep our hands warm. I remember feeling so grown up as we walked into church but I was actually 9 years old.
Over the Easter weekend we would go to our local zoo, which was not huge but just big enough. We would also go to the fair and the circus.
I remember Easter being such a special holiday time, we would be so excited.
One year my brother and cousin, who lived in Leigh Park Portsmouth, were both christened on Easter Sunday. It was a fantastic weekend, we had relatives from all over the country staying at our house. I think this was the first time I 'camped out' even though it was in the dining room. Even the lounge,or sitting room, was used by the adults.
We have had so many special Easter's, far too many to mention individually but I am very lucky to have my memories.
I think my best choice for Easter food is Hot cross buns. We would wake up to the smell of hot cross buns being warmed in the oven on Good Friday, nothing quite like it.
I still do the hot cross buns in the oven and although I usually buy some early to 'try out', I tend to make my own hot cross buns now and they are usually lovely (even if I do say so myself!) and they are soon eaten up anyway
My husbands' birthday is in April and frequently falls over Easter. He is a twin and his twin brother had a daughter on their birthday one year, so it's a busy family time still
Anyway my husband loves Caramac chocolate so I always bought him some Caramac Easter eggs each year.
When my husband was 40 his birthday fell at the same time as Easter, but by then they had stopped making Caramac Easter eggs.
I contacted Nestlé and offered them any amount of money to make Hubby an Easter egg for his special birthday. They told me they had stopped making them and no amount of begging changed their minds.
I ended up buying an Easter egg mould, together with nearly 40 bars of Caramac chocolate. I managed to make Hubby 4 Caramac Easter eggs. One for each decade was all I could do because I couldn't find any more bars of the chocolate locally, being Easter. I wrapped the eggs individually in foil which I decorated, I put them on the table in a basket I made for him to see as soon as he got downstairs on his birthday/Easter Monday.
He said it's the one Easter he will always remember and he often tells people about it even though it's over 15 years ago now.

I am a total chocoholic but I do love a traditional Easter roast! It's the same as Christmas, it's the best part of the day by far!
The smell of hot cross buns in the morning and for breakfast with thickly spread butter - wonderful!! For dinner it's got to be the Lidl lamb shanks in minted gravy with Lidl Dauphinoise gratin potatoes and a few roasties 'on the side' and loads of steamed vegetables!! A home made onion sauce is also a must to go with it!!
