How to keep children entertained during the holidays?

Community Manager

Hi Lidlers,

KIDS.jpeg

Summer is here which means holidays are starting and school term ending. With the kids off school and probably loving the free time, we know that you will all be worrying about one big thing. How do you keep the kids entertained for over one whole month? We want to help and have come up with various ideas on how to keep the children busy.

Stay cool

With all this sunshine there’s nothing better than keeping cool with an iced drink. With the help of our Ice Crusher for £5.99 we’ve got the perfect recipe to bring out their culinary skills with a fun twist. Don’t forget to add your recipes here

Here’s how to make Strawberry Granita Lemonade.

INGREDIENTS

Strawberry Granita Cubes:

  • Strawberry.jpg

1 lb fresh strawberries (hulled and cut in half)

  • 1/2 cup simple syrup

Lemonade:

  • 6 lemons (juiced)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 – 3/4 cup sugar (depending on how sweet you want it)

INSTRUCTIONS

Strawberry Granita Cubes:

  1. Add the strawberries to a blender and puree.
  2. Add in the 1/2 cup of cooled simple syrup and blend.
  3. Pour the mixture into an ice cube tray and let freeze completely.

Lemonade:

  1. Juice your lemons.
  2. Add the sugar to the lemon juice and stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Once the sugar is dissolved, add the water and stir.

Putting it all together:

  • Add 2 or 3 frozen strawberry granita cubes to a blender and give the blender a quick pulse to break up the cubes into a coarse frozen mixture. Once that is done you are ready to make your drink! To a serving glass add a layer of crushed ice, then the frozen granita mixture then pour on the lemonade. Enjoy right away!

Do you have any other ideas on how you keep the children entertained during the holidays? We’d love to hear from you too!

Best wishes,

Sophie

MAKING SLIME

My daughter really enjoys making slime. She makes it under a sheltered area in the garden. She likes to make different colours and textures,

Keeps her busy for hours.

I'm not exactly sure of the recipe but if anybody is interested I will ask her.

I think it is pva glue and a little borax mixed with water and if you want to make fluffy slime add some shaving foam, then add any colours or glitter etc that you like.

Other ideas are play dough, you can Google a recipe. I think it is flour, water, salt, oil and food colouring. IMG_20180708_133935.jpgSome of the slime my daughter has made.

As the weather is still so glorious I shall be giving my little ones buckets of water and clean (unused) decorating paint brushes to paint the patio with the water and watch the magic as the water dries and the "painting" disappears!
