Romaone lettuce is on offer this week :-)

Romaine lettuce sauté


1 bunch of spring onions or 1 leek, chopped

2 romaine lettuces

bouillon powder or stock cube

1 carton whipping cream

lemon juice


salt and pepper

fresh parsley, finely chopped

In a sautépan, melt the butter, add the spring onions or leeks and romaine lettuce, cover and gently sauté for about 5 minutes, you don’t want the lettuce to go limp. test with a fork, should be al dente, add the cream, stock or bouillon powder and bring to a boil, throw in the parsley, briefly simmer and take off the heat, season with lemon juice, salt and pepper.


This is so nice served with fish dishes and boiled new potatoes.

Non vegetarians might want to add smokey bacon or pancetta.
