My Tilly is just the same. A very nice lady sent me some flowers last month and they came in a "Moonpig box". The box is upstairs on the landing and it is Tilly's favourite hidy hole at present. (@tommiesgirl knows the flower lady). Tilly's presents always end up very loosely wrapped in tissue paper and put in a large paper gift bag and she has hours of fun dive bombing it and chasing it around the room with her toys. @Justjoy, @Nic, @Barb, @Galicianguy. Toby Inns, ours was prawn cocktail to start followed by Steak medium with fries and salad and finished with the lovely gateaux. Lidl up to last year always had for Easter and Christmas 3 types of these gateaux - Black Forest, Apricot Cream and Chocolate Gateaux but I have not seen any this year. What happened@lidl?
Of course the pets are part of the family. I bet the dogs get just as much fun out of the paper and boxes as the presents themselves.
There are a lot of fudged gateaux about. the original has a french crisp pastry base with a thin layer of chocolate sponge soaked in kirsch with a layer of cherries and cream followed by another layer of same topped with chocolate sponge and lots of cream, decorated nicely all around with cream and chocolate flakes and then on top the swirls with the kirsch soaked apportioned cherry. The large version gives 16 slices, the smaller one 8 to 12. Lidl used to have an apricot cream version and a chocolate version. the Black Forest gateaux originated in Germany in the Schwarzwald ie (Schwarzwaelder Kirsch Torte) . it is very laborious to make yourself , especially with the application of gelatine to the whipped cream and all in all you have to be a dedicated and expert cook. @Galicianguy
